Welcome to the Peer Mentor Application Form

Questions marked with a * are required
We are currently recruiting for our SUMMER 2024 Mentor Training Program. Training will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6-8pm Eastern time from June 26th-July 24th.

Peer Mentors with Eating Disorders Nova Scotia and Body Peace Canada play an essential role in supporting folks working on eating disorder recovery. Our Peer Mentors bring their lived expertise in working on their own recovery, managing relapses, and living their lives free from the confines of an eating disorder.

Mentors will complete a 30-hour training program comprised of both on-demand and virtual components. Upon completion, mentors receive a certificate recognizing their participation in training. Trained mentors will have continued support through a Monthly Mentor Meet Up, Community of Practice, and Coordinator supervision. Each mentor decides their level of involvement in the program, which can include one-on-one mentoring, group facilitation, and workshop development and participation. We ask that mentors providing one-on-one support have the availability to be matched with at least 2 peers to keep up with our ongoing demand for mentoring. Honorarium is provided for your time.

Please apply if you:
  • Are 18 years of age or older
  • Can commit to being involved with the organization for 2 years
  • Have personal experience working through the recovery process
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of ethics, sound judgement, and compassion
  • Display excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of self-awareness and are comfortable sharing your experiences in a supportive manner
  • Have knowledge of and practice effective self-care
  • Have knowledge of and capacity it apply appropriate boundaries
  • Are flexible and reliable

To ensure our Mentors reflect the community we serve, we are especially interested in hearing from folks who are over 40 years old, folks identifying as men, those from BIPOC communities, and those who have experience with binge-eating.
